Dr. Tony Starr died of a gunshot wound to the head – police suspect suicide.
Dr. Tony Starr has been found dead at his home A prominent osteopathic doctor has been found dead at his home in SE Ohio after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. 52-year-old father-of-two, Dr. Tony Starr was a much-loved family doctor with a passion for alternative healing who had earned a reputation from his patients for “telling the truth” about Big Pharma.
According to Noble County Sheriff Robert Pickenpaugh, Dr. Starr was pronounced dead at the residence where he was found by friends after he failed to answer his phone or respond to messages. The sheriff reported that he died from a fatal bullet wound but stated that “no foul play is suspected” and that his death is “most likely a suicide.”
Friends of the doctor say they are shocked to hear about his ” suicide,” saying that he always “seemed so positive.” and that he was “really looking forward to Christmas.” Investigators confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered from the scene.
According to one of his patients, Mr. Green, Dr. Starr was popular due to his honesty, saying: “We all loved him because we felt like we could trust him. “That’s why most people went to him. “He used to warn us that drug companies just wanted to make money from sick people and that made us feel safe with him.
“Most people felt the same way.” The autopsy was reportedly ordered to determine the cause of death for 52-year-old doctor. According to Pickenpaugh, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the residence at approximately 2:16 p.m. Saturday after the discovery of Starr’s body. United Ambulance was also requested at the residence in the village.
Noble County Coroner Dr. Alan Spencer ordered the autopsy, according to Pickenpaugh. The final results could take six to eight weeks to receive. No further information was released by the sheriff prior to press time. Dr. Starr, a Buckeye Trail High School graduate, operated a medical office on Woodsfield Road (Route 78) in Caldwell.
A Quaker City area native, he earned his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed post-graduate training at the former Doctor’s Hospital in Stark County, according to the Superior Med website. Dr. Starr served as chief resident at the Stark County hospital and served as associate director the Family Practice Residency Program.
He also earned National Board Certification from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. His specialty was family medicine. The death remained under investigation by the Noble County Sheriff’s Office. According to his obituary, Dr. Starr left behind a wife and two sons, plus a young granddaughter.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, December 21, 2017, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724.The funeral service will be held Friday, December 22, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Kirby Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery.
